New rules for SBI customers – now withdrawing money from ATM has become expensive

State Bank of India (SBI) has recently made a major change in its ATM transaction rules, which has had the biggest impact on Salary Package Account holders. These new rules have come into effect from December 1, 2025.

Here are the main changes and information about accounts whose unlimited free limit has been removed:

1• (Salary Accounts)

•Earlier, SBI salary package account holders used to get unlimited free cash withdrawals from ATMs of other banks. Now this has been changed:

• New limit: Now only 10 free transactions (financial + non-financial) per month have been fixed for salary account holders at ATMs of other banks.

• Additional charges: After 10 free transactions, every withdrawal will be charged ₹23 + GST.

2.(Savings Accounts)

Using ATMs of other banks has now become more expensive for savings account holders:

• Free limit: The limit of 5 free transactions per month on ATMs of other banks remains intact.

• Increased charges: After the free limit is exhausted:

• Cash Withdrawal: Increased from ₹21 to ₹23 + GST.

Non-financial transactions (Balance Enquiry etc.): Increased from ₹10 to ₹11 + GST.

3. (Current Accounts)

There is no free limit on ATMs of other banks for current accounts. They will now have to pay the new increased rates (₹23 + GST) for every transaction.

Who has got relief? (Exempt accounts)

These new charges will not affect certain accounts and services:

• Kisan Credit Card (KCC): Unlimited free transactions at ATMs of other banks will continue for KCC account holders.

• BSBD Accounts: There is no change in the rules of Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts (4 free withdrawals in a month).

• Cardless Cash Withdrawal: Cardless cash withdrawal through ‘YONO’ from SBI’s own ATMs is still free.

Tip: To avoid additional charges, try to use SBI’s own ATMs or prefer digital payments (UPI).
